As the "unofficial" start of summer kicks off this weekend -- most of us are excited to get outside and enjoy all the season has to offer.
Along with summer - comes many, many opportunities for our kiddos to be near or around FIRE.
With the hub's profession -- we feel obligated to remind everyone and especially parents and grandparents of young kiddos -- to please, please, please use extreme caution.
Weekends like Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day (and many weekends in-between) often call for bonfires/campfires, BBQ grilling and even fireworks.
All of these gatherings are meant to be full of fun -- and most of the time, they are!
But hese holidays, unfortunately, are often very busy in the burn unit.
The hubs has seen some sad and tragic stuff.
Just remember ... it takes ONE second ... a turn of your back ... for unintentional things to happen.
No one ever means to take their eye off their little people - but it just happens. We are all human.
I certainly don't mean to be the downer because I personally LOVE a fun bonfire with friends and family -- but sometimes these reminders are timely and needed and can save lives.
If nothing else -- have a serious talk with your kiddos ... lay down ground rules ... and be sure to follow through with them... as the night goes on don't start slacking on your expectations.
Here's hoping for a very fun and SAFE holiday for everyone!
With love,
Cuz I'm the wife of a burn doc (and fire safety is very important to us)!
